“Hello Queen,” he tells her, barking once.

“He says hi,” I tell her.

“So, what’s this solution?” she asks, turning back to my dad, who had sat down in one of the two large leather chairs in front of her desk. My mother goes back to her seat, so I take the second one, with Maxx lying down at my feet.

“We might have been looking at it wrong. We have been trying to find a Trivalti to replace Lord Trivalti. What if we don’t need a Trivalti?” my father says.

“That makes no sense, Peter. We need someone to sit as head of the House,” my mother says, shaking her head. “Otherwise the house will die off, and right now the Royals are trying to avoid that.”

  “A steward,” my father says.

My mother frowns at first, but then her face breaks out into a grin. She looks at me quickly. “Your idea is to have a steward to watch over House Trivalti for Jelina while she is gone?”

“Exactly,” I tell her. “But back it up by House Quinn or even MacDermott. I am a MacDermott and I just married Jelina, so would that now make her House mine?” I ask her, not really knowing the rules.

“Holy crap! I have been looking at this all wrong! Minard!” my mother screams suddenly, causing my dad and I to jump in surprise. Even Maxx is up and looking around for trouble.

The side door opens and Minard comes through. “Yes, your Majesty?” he says respectfully, bowing.

“Minard, stop that when only my husband and son are here,” she says, irritated.

“Good,” he says with a big grin. “What’s up?”

“Who in House Quinn or House MacDermott would be a good candidate as a Steward for House Trivalti? With my backing as the Queen.”

Minard looks shocked at first, but then he gets a thoughtful expression on his face. After a minute or two of mumbling and shaking his head, he finally looks up at her. “I would say Lisa Quinn or Bryan MacDermott.”

“Why Lisa? She is just out of college,” my mother asks him, uncertainty showing on her face.

“Because she not only studied here, but also did four years of study on Earth. She has a good head on her shoulders, and she also has her husband Fernand to back her up,” he says with a grin.

“Oh shit,” my father says, but then follows it up with, “Sorry, love.”

“No, I agree. I forgot about Fernand,” my mother says with a laugh.

“I don’t get it?” I ask them, not understanding.

“Fernand is one of the best warriors around. He is a Wereboar. But not only is he a Wereboar, he also loves Earth technology and has been using some of it in his own style of fighting. All right, let’s go with her. I will draw up the papers,” my mother tells us. “Anything else?” she asks, looking between my father and me.

“I have a question,” I say, something I saw as I passed the guards bothering me. “I saw that your guards have those special guns,” I say in case Minard doesn’t know about the silver needles. “Is that safe?”

“Ah,” she says, nodding. “Yes, they have the silver needle guns.” I look at Minard, who doesn’t bat an eye. “And yes, Minard knows about them. Actually,” she says with a thoughtful expression on her face as she looks at me. Nodding as if coming to a decision, she says. “I want you to give immunity to Minard and your dad. And those two guards out there. If you are good with that?” she asks me.

My dad looks at me eagerly, but Minard looks shocked. “What? You didn’t think I would leave you out, did you, Minard?” she says with a grin.

“I honestly never expected to get it, Your Majesty,” he says emotionally. “Thank you.”

“Don’t thank me. Thank my son,” she says with a soft smile at the older man.

Minard turns to me, bows low, and says, “Thank you for this gift, Silver Magi.”

Groaning, I say, “Of course. Why those two guards?” I ask my mother curiously.

She nods and asks Minard, “Can you go get them both, please? And the reason why is because they are loyal to me. They have been screened with the Voice and through training are now hardened against its use, so they cannot be disloyal. Also, they are my personal guard.”

Nodding, I say, “Then I don’t see a problem.” Just then, the two guards walk into the room with Minard. They both look curious, but nothing else.

“Gentlemen,” my mother says. “Today is a special day for you both. This young man is my son,” she says, pointing to me.

Both of them bow to me with respect, and one of them says, “Silver Magi.”

“Ah, so news travels faster than I expected. My son will be giving you both immunity to silver. As he will be doing for Minard and my husband.” If anything could change the expression on their faces and make them look comical, it was this news. They go from shock to happiness to joy. At the end, both guards are sporting large grins.

One of the guards looks at me with hope in his eyes, “Truthfully?”

Nodding to him, I say, “Truthfully.” Turning to my mother, I ask her, “So, just immunity?”

“Just that, yes, and for Minard as well. Peter?” My mother asks him. I guess he knows the two types of bites I can give—immunity to silver, or immunity to silver and the ability to use magic.

“Hmm,” my father says, thinking about it. He looks at me first and then at the guards. “I would say the second choice then,” he finally says. My mother looks at him in surprise.

  “Really?” she asks him.

“Why not? If I am going to be Consort to the Queen, I might as well have some power behind it, right?” he tells her with a grin. “Minard, is that cot still in your office?”

“Yes,” he tells my father, hesitantly.

“Right, so start with me, but wait until I am lying down,” my father tells me. “I heard about the after-effects from your mother,” he tells me with a grin, causing me to blush at the memory.

I’ve discovered that I can bite someone to give them silver immunity, and nothing happens but pain. But when I give someone immunity to silver and the ability to use magic, it apparently causes euphoria in women. Meaning orgasms. My dad will be the first to get both as a male, so I don’t know how he’ll react. He’ll also be passed out for pretty well twelve hours afterwards.

My father gets up and offers me his wrist. “You spoke to Trent?” I ask him with a raised eyebrow.

“Yep, I know you don’t need to bite me in the neck. Or do you for this?” he asks.

“No, the wrist will do fine,” I tell him. I look over my shoulder and the two guards and Minard are looking at us in wonder.

I make my incisors longer and bite into my father’s wrist, pulling a Thread of Faith from my heart and placing it into him, but I don’t connect it yet. Removing my teeth from his wrist, I see the wound is already closing up due to him being a Werefolk and his quick healing ability. I nod to him and point to the door to the office with the cot in it.

“Right. See you in twelve hours,” he says with a grin.

Once the door is closed and I figure my father is lying down, I connect the Thread to him and push about a quarter cup of my blood into him. I hear muffled screaming through the door but try to ignore it. I also slam down the feelings that are coming through the Thread, so I don’t feel them. It turns out that males also feel the euphoria, and the last thing I need is to feel my dad having orgasms, thanks. That’s worse than hearing your parents having sex. Shortly after, I feel my dad pass out from the pain, the euphoria, and the change.

“Done,” I tell my mother, but when I look at her I notice she has an angry look on her face. Oh shit, did I fuck up? “What?” I ask her worriedly.

“Your father. I will kill him when he wakes up. He just got himself out of the party tonight,” she growls.

“Oh, fu-, fudge,” I finish lamely.

“It’s too late now. I never thought about it. I assume that won’t happen to these gentlemen?” my mother says, pointing to the three men behind me.

“No, they will be fine,” I say. “So who is first?”

The bigger guard comes forward quickly and blurts out, “Me!” but then looks back in shame at Minard. “I am sorry, My Lord, you should go first.”

“No, no,” Minard says nervously. “You can go first.”

“If you insist, My Lord,” he says with a sudden grin and offers his wrist to me.

“So, what is your name?” I ask him.

“My name is Blain, Silver Magi,” he says nervously.

“And you?” I ask the other guard.

“My name is George, Silver Magi,” he says, bowing to me.

So for the next twenty minutes, I use the Threads of Faith on them and give them silver immunity. Unfortunately for all three, it’s not pain-free. By the time I am finished with Minard, he looks up at me in shock.

“Fucking hell, that hurt!” he yells out. He looks at my mother quickly and says, “Sorry, Your Majesty!”

“Don’t worry this time, Minard. I am told that it can be quite painful,” she says with a sympathetic smile.

“Fucking understatement,” one of the guards mumble under his breath, but I still hear him thanks to my enhanced hearing. My mother, though, either doesn’t hear him or chooses to ignore the swearing.

  Chapter Thirty

Once the guards are gone, and it’s just my mother, Maxx, and I, she says, “This will be good for your father since now he can handle the guns he created.”

“Dad created these?” I ask her in shock, bringing the silver needle gun out of my hip holster and looking at it in a different light. I thought it was someone on Earth who had designed it and made it for my mother.

She nods. “Your dad is an engineer,” she says with a laugh. “He went to university on Earth. Your father is a smart man. He designed it, but he couldn’t personally handle the insides of it. He will be able to now though”

“What else did he design? The cell phones?” I ask her.

Laughing, she says, “No, but he was the one who figured out how to piggyback them to use here on our system.”

“So, how do you get messages here across the Portal stones?” I ask her, wondering how she got messages from Trent or even how Silvana was able to call someone in the Underworld.

“The tower that is just outside the Portal stones can pass a message through a certain frequency. Your dad was the one who figured that one out. So our cell phones run as a regular cell phone, but when the signal hits the tower, it converts the signal to that frequency. I am not sure of the science behind it, but it works. It lets me call my agents on Earth, and vice versa. Or at least they can call their handler here.”

“Damn, and dad figured this out? What about the Elves?” I ask her.

“Same technology. Your dad sold it to them. I might be Queen, but your father is richer than me,” she tells me with a laugh. “You get your I.T. stuff from him, I think. I hear you are pretty good with coding?”

“Yeah, I was a bug reporter before I got attacked by the Organization. And I was good at it,” I tell her with a shrug. “Seriously, the coding systems we have on Earth are pretty easy to crack. If I had wanted to, I am sure I could have been a mastermind computer criminal, but you taught me too well,” I tell her with a smile.

“So,” I continue, “what exactly is this party tonight?”

Sighing, she says, “As Queen, I must show myself to the upper caste of the Royals. I hate parties like this, but since you made me Queen, I need to show not just myself, but your father, as Consort, which he hates to be called,” she says with a laugh, “and you, the newest Prince of this world, and your four Princess wives.”

“And of course, because of that I am required to show up,” I tell her, deflated. Shit. So much for seeing if I can get out of it. Dad, I fucking hate you right now, I think with a chuckle.

“So I hear the tailors made you a suitable outfit for tonight?” my mother asks me.

“Oh, yes,” I tell her, lying through my teeth. “I can’t wait to wear it,” I say with a grin, knowing that there is no way I am going to wear the cotton candy outfit. Thank you, Dad, for getting me that tuxedo. I don’t hate you anymore.

“Right, I need to throw you and Maxx out now as I have too much work to do before the party. And Brandon?” she says, all serious now. “Thank you for making me Queen and bringing it back into our family,” she says softly.

“You’re welcome, but I had motives,” I tell her, shrugging and nodding.

“Motives?” she asks me, tilting her head sideways.

“Going after the Void, I need somewhere where I can have a power base and even money. But also, when I found out that the lower caste isn’t allowed to use technology here and that my grandfather tried to change that? Oh trust me, I will be changing that. The same way I made you Queen,” I tell her, and by the end, my voice is hard.

My mother looks at me oddly at first, but then she nods. “Actually, we do have other business. On Earth. I know you want to go after the Organization, but you can’t do it alone,” she begins, but holds up her hand just as I am about to say I have my three, no wait, now four, wives to help.

“You need help, Brandon,” she says, her voice hard now. “You cannot do this all alone with just four wives,” Maxx barks, “and a dog. The Void is all over the place. Not only that, Earth doesn’t only have the Void to deal with. There are other creatures that we went after to make sure they kept the secrets of the Werefolk, Vampires, and Elves, under wraps. Now that you made me Queen here, it gives me something I didn’t have access to before.”

“Oh, what’s that?” I ask her, intrigued.

“Gold. Lots of it. I have a small office in New York, but I will be expanding it. Now that I have access to my grandfather’s gold, I can do much, much more. I have been using my own money, but now I don’t need to, which gives me many more options. You will be taking a trip to D.C. when you get to Earth. I have someone I want you to meet. We need land, and this person can help us so we can get our new company going,” she says with a grin.

“New company?” I ask her, confused. Trip to D.C.? What the hell is she talking about?

“Yes, as you are now the newest member of SMFoR,” she says proudly.

“Wait, S&M four?” I ask her, now really mystified. Is she starting a BDSM company?

Laughing, she says, “Not S&M4, though that is a good acronym too. It’s S.M.F.o.R. The Silver Magi Federation of Realms. I promise, before you leave for Earth you will have the paperwork and everything else you need to get to D.C. Now, go nap before the party, there isn’t much time. And I have even more work to do.”

I get up, confused, and look back at my mother. What the hell is The Silver Magi Federation of Realms? I mean, I guess it’s got my nickname in the title, but what the hell? Is she creating a secret society?

I didn’t really nap as my mother told me to do. I lay in bed, with Maxx next to me, trying to figure shit out. What did my mother expect from this SM4? Which is what I started calling it instead of that tongue twister of S.M.F.o.R. Besides, SM4 sounded more Bond-like or even more MIB like. Hell, since I will be dealing with monsters and who knows what, MIB might be the closest thing to the truth.

I am now up and getting dressed in the tuxedo my dad gave me. It all fits perfectly too, even the shoes, which I discovered had black socks in them that are really comfortable. Suddenly, there is a knock at my door. Rushing over, I open it and look at the man there in disappointment.

  “Oh, it’s you,” I say.

“I am sorry I am not who you expected,” Trent tells me with a grin. “Expecting someone else?”

“Thought it was my dad,” I tell him with a chuckle.

“Yeah, no. Your mother told me what happened. He’s still passed out, so she sent me to get you. Hey Maxx!” Trent says, coming in after me, while I go back to the mirror to try to adjust my bow tie.

“Hello!” Maxx says to Trent excitedly. He might be a smart-talking dog, I think with a chuckle, but he is still a dog. He gets overly excited about seeing friends. Trent takes a bone out of his back pocket and throws it at Maxx, who grabs it out of the air with ease.

“Thank you!” Maxx shouts in our heads, making us both laugh at him.

“You’re going to spoil him. You know that, right?” I tell him.

“Hey, maybe that’s my plan? Take him away from you?” he says with a grin, showing his big pearly whites.

“Ah, good luck. I just got him. No way am I giving up man’s best friend. Yet,” I say with a grin at Maxx in the mirror.

  “Hey!” Maxx says indignantly.

“Fucksakes!” I shout at the mirror, trying to get this bow tie done. I have been at it for the last hour.

“Here, let me get that. Nice tux, by the way. Your dad?” Trent asks, coming to stand in front of me and slapping my hands away from the bow tie.

“Yeah, otherwise I would have had to wear that,” I tell him, pointing to the bed with the outfit that was made for me. Looking over, Trent winces in sympathy.

“Yeah, I heard your dad sent someone to Earth, but I didn’t know what for. Glad it was that. There,” he says, as he finishes tying the bow tie.

Looking at it in the mirror, I am impressed. It looks exactly the way it’s supposed to look. I turn and give him a strange look.

“I had to go to parties with your mother on Earth many times, and I had to wear a tuxedo,” he says with a chuckle.

“Is that how my mother knows someone in D.C. that I am supposed to go meet after tonight?” I ask him.

“She didn’t tell you who you were meeting?” he says with a questioning look.

“No, she didn’t. Who am I meeting?” I ask him.

“Oh no,” Trent says, shaking his head with a big grin. “I am not giving that one away,” he continues with a deep laugh. “Now, we should get going. The party has already started. The only special guest missing is you, Prince Brandon.”

“Shit, right. I am Royalty now, aren’t I?” I tell him.

“Just here on Sanctuary,” he says. “On Earth, you are something even bigger.”

  “I am?”
